Learning Micoscopy

Training

A range of training programs are available through our facility.

Basic Training

Matched to your needs

Basic Cellular Microscopy

Learn how to image fixed cells or tissues on any of our conventional microscope systems.

Tissue Imaging

Learn how to image fixed tissues using our dedicated tissue imaging system.

Live-Cell Microscopy

Learn how to image living cells on our Leica DMI6000B or Zeiss Axio Observer systems. Requires basic cellular microscopy training.

Advanced Training

Moving to more complex methods

SRRF

Learn how to acquire, process, and analyze super-resolution radial fluctuation microscopy images.

Requires basic cellular microscopy training, and may require live cell microscopy training if live cell SRRF is required.

GSDM

Learn how to operate the Ground State Depletion Microscope to acquire images with up to 20 nm resolution – more than 10 times better than confocal microscopy!

Requires basic cellular microscopy training.

Other Methods

We can provide training and experimental design advice on a range of additional imaging modalities including TIRF, single particle tracking, bioreporters, and more!

For Training on our Instruments Contact:

  • Basic cellular, live-cell, GSDM, and SRRF imaging: Angela Vrieze (akipp4@uwo.ca)
  • Tissue imaging: Heather Craig (hbrought@uwo.ca)
  • Other: Dr. Bryan Heit (bheit@uwo.ca)

Additional Training

The Molecular Imaging Facility is a proud founding member of Micrographia@Western, an organization dedicated to promoting microscopy-based research and training at Western University. Micrographia@Western offers a range of training opportunities for everyone from individuals who’ve never operated a microscope previously, through to training in advanced imaging and analysis modalities.
